In September 2020, the US Fish and Wildlife Service announced that they would not be listing the Greater Sage-grouse under the Endangered Species Act. This decision was a result of unprecedented work done by a variety of stakeholders from all economic sectors across the west. A key component is the updated land use plans from the Bureau of Land Management and the US Forest Service. Implementation of these plans will allow for the conservation measures to be enacted that are necessary to stop the decline of sagebrush habitats. There are no guarantees that every component will work correctly, but diligence in this area is the only way to protect and restore sagebrush habitats across the west. In the mean time, the sagebrush habitat on which Sagegrouse depend is being destroyed and degraded by wildfire, climate change, invasive species and lack of connectivity.
